OUR MISSION IS

About OLDHOUSE ROASTERY

TO SHARE

Our story is simple – we are made up of small town, family-owned values. We believe in working hard with calloused hands for what you want, never sacrificing quality for a faster process, and offering a helping hand to those in need.

Our hope is to always love like Jesus, to stand up for what we believe in (even when it gets tough),

… and to share with you a good cup of coffee.

We blend our passions, our story, and our values together and pour that into every single bean we roast. We’re glad you’re here, have a seat and sit a spell with us!

TO LOVE

“The old house” was granny’s house where she grew her family. The white wooden house just down the gravel road from mom and dad’s – where we would spend our summers surrounded by the smell of dirt from the garden and mint from the creek while we searched for crawdads and salamanders under the warm Ashe County sun. Times were simple, and never taken for granted – by watching our loved ones work on the farm from sun up to sun down, it was instilled in us the importance of working hard for what you want, and to never let yourself slip too far away from what was most important.

The lessons learned during those childhood days are what we take pride in the most – our hope is that with a single sip of our fresh brewed coffee, you’d be able to feel the blissfullness of a warm summers day at granny’s old house, too.

TO EDUCATE

Oldhouse Roastery came to life in 2023, during our search for a good coffee bean for our coffee shop and restaurant, Oldhouse Goods.

We dug deep into every detail, researching coffee cherry-growing regions all over the world. We tasted, took notes, and narrowed down hundreds of options to the very best. You will find our beans are sourced from different locations across the globe to give each roast it’s own unique composition and flavor profiles. No matter the roast, we did decide to use only fair trade and organically grown beans to really help narrow down our options to be the best of the best in both taste but also quality. The tasting of each bean was done blindly so that we only judged based off of flavor and not location.

After many late nights researching the process, learning the ins and outs of roasting, making mistakes and more mistakes again, we were finally able to get our roasts down to the perfect composition that you can find in our coffee shops today. We couldn’t let ourselves settle for just getting by, we wanted the best blends for our customers and community.

We look forward to sharing with you the depth of flavor in our beans, and walk you through discovering your own preference in coffee taste

TO TASTE

After doing our blind taste test and choosing which beans we enjoyed the most, we then went over what tasting notes came through for each. After collaborating, each tasting note helped us determine how we were going to roast those beans to bring out those predominant flavors the best being either a light, medium, or dark roast. After many hours of roasting and testing, these are our final roasts and their flavor profiles.

Genesis Roast – Medium to Dark
(Eastern Highlands, Papa New Guinea)
cherries, toffee, a touch of heaven

Matthew Roast – Light
(Chiapas, Mexico)
fresh citrus, floral, crisp tartness

Ruth Roast – Medium
(Aroma, Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia)
cranberries, fresh plum, velvet

Revelation Roast – Dark
(San Pedro, Atitlan, Guatemala)
cocoa, pecans, candy-like sweetness

Like the individual complexity of the coffee bean, we recognize we all have our own struggles we live with every day – especially in the world we live now where you’re told to walk when you feel like running, to jump when you need rest, and to go left when every bone in your body knows to go right. We are taking a stance and refuse to hide in the background. We are proud to be Oldhouse Roastery.
