Description

Ruth, the Moabitess was an outsider, excluded from the people of God.  The Lord chose to put this woman (among others) into His own genealogy in order to bring attention to the fact that God is doing a work in a people who are at their heart enemies of His.  He loves them to death and turns his enemies into friends.  He does this by His great redeeming blood.

We are by nature strangers, aliens, enemies, hostile to God.  But the redemption price has been paid for people like us from every nation, tongue and tribe throughout the world.  We have been bought back by God by the blood of his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you’ve never read Ruth’s story you can find it in the Biblical book named for her. In Ruth 4:4-7 the kinsmen redeemer Boaz pays the redemption price for this widow when the one who should have done so could not.  Boaz serves as a great picture of Christ Jesus, who for the love of His bride paid a great price that no mere human could ever pay for ourselves or for each other.  

Colossians 1:13-14 mentions the great exchange that took place on the cross of calvary when it says that God “hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”

Hebrews 9:12 explains that Jesus death as our substitute has purchased for us life forever with him, “… by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
